Apple A16 Bionic Latest News
July 11: According to tipster iHacktu leaks, Apple will unveil the iPhone 14 series on September 13. So the next generation A16 Bionic chip will also be introduced on September 13.
June 1: Apple will reportedly reuse the A15 Bionic chipset on the vanilla iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max model this year. However, Apple will rebrand the new chipset as the A16. On the other hand, the new chip will likely be called the A16 Pro, which will be used on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
May 26: According to tipster ShrimpApplePro, A16 Bionic will be based on the 5nm node from TSMC N5P. He further added the company might adopt TSMCFF5, which is refreshed process node that offers an upgraded CPU/GPU and faster LPDDR5 RAM.
Apple A16 Bionic Specifications
Some of the rumours tell that Apple might skip the 4nm fabrication process and directly introduce 3nm fabrication technology in their Apple A16 Bionic chipset. Apple has been stuck to the 5nm fabrication process for the last two years. But, TSMC, the company which’s fabrication process is going to use in the upcoming chipset, has said that they’re facing some problems with the 3 nm-based chipsets. They are struggling to manufacture it. So, Apple might have to stick with the 5nm fabrication process again.
However, nothing is certain at this point, and there is still plenty of time before the formal launch. So, assuming TSMC has resolved its manufacturing issues by then, we may expect the Apple A16 Bionic chipset to be built on a 3nm fabrication process; otherwise, 5nm chipsets would be used. Furthermore, some sources claim that the chipset will be manufactured using a 4nm technology. The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 also employs TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process, which is more energy-efficient than Samsung’s.
Summing it up, we don’t have much information about the processor’s specifications yet. We will update the post as soon as we get any hint or leak about the same.
