Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei sub-brand Honor achieved massive success from the 2016 launch of the Honor 8 and the 2017 Honor 7X, which we rated the best mid-range smartphone. The company has promised EMUI 8 based on Android 8.0 Oreo for both smartphones, but they have yet to receive them and run on EMUI 5.
According to Honor France’s Twitter account, both smartphones will get the EMUI 8.0 update in Q2 2018. Interestingly, this contradicts Honor India’s statement on Twitter that the Honor 8 will not be updated to EMUI 8 for hardware and software limitations. However, later, a representative cleared that Honor 8 will get some of the Oreo features through an update but not the actual OS. The CEO also claimed the company is conducting tests on the Honor 8, Honor 8 Pro, and Honor 9.
As for the Honor 7X, the Oreo should be available for the smartphone as it was launched later after Oreo was released. Company officials claimed the device shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat-based EMUI 5 because only Nougat was available during manufacturing. The device, however, got a major update recently where it got the face unlocking feature and AR lens, a feature inspired by Snapchat. Face unlocking, however, is a major achievement; currently, there is no phone in the segment with this feature. The update was rolled out in specific markets like Germany but is yet to reach Indian users.
Still, the Honor 7X will get the Oreo update a few months later, hopefully, the Honor 8. The EMUI 8 uses a customized user interface inspired by Oreo and comes with features like Smart Resolution, Dynamic wallpaper, Navigation bar, customizations, and more, along with the regular Oreo features. The company claimed the EMUI 8 delivers a smooth UI experience, enabling a single touch between user spaces, prompt data transfer, and fast file-sharing abilities.
