List of Phones with Snapdragon 480 & 480 Plus 5G Processor to Buy in 2022.

The 5G had gone mainstream in 2020 launching some devices including flagship and medium-ranged 5G smartphones. Even if they launched OnePlus Nord N10 and LG K92 with Snapdragon 690 at a lower price, their ulterior motive is to launch a 5G chipset smartphone that can be afforded by everyone. So Qualcomm jumped at the idea and kept their promise and launched the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 which is the first 5G SoC in the 4-series. There are a lot of firsts in this chipset which you will know as you go through the article. So let’s cut to the slack and look at the amazing features of the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 as well as the compatible devices.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Processor Features

Let’s look at the features implemented in the 4-series for the very first. As we all know the Snapdragon 480 is the first SoC to bear an X51 5G modem-RF System in the 4-series for 5G coverage. The modem further supports non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) 5G network modes along with FDD, TDD, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, and a wide variety of network technology by Qualcomm. The modem supports global multi-SIM and 5G bands. The download and upload speeds for 5G are 2.5 Gbps and 660 Mbps respectively.

Further connectivity includes Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6200 mobile connectivity subsystem which supports dual WiFi antennas, 8-stream sounding with multi-user MIMO, Bluetooth 5.1, Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive codec, and Qualcomm’s TrueWireless technology. For more precise location tracking, the chipset has the dual-frequency (L1 and L5) GNSS and also supports India’s NavIC satellite navigation system.

Coming to the rest of the specs, the features are pretty decent compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460. The chip is manufactured by Samsung using an 8nm process technology. The Octa-core CPU comprises two units of  A76 based Kryo 540 Prime CPU clocked at up to 2 GHz and six units of A55 based Kryo 560 Efficiency CPUs clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. The GPU of the Snapdragon 480 is Adreno 619. Qualcomm claims that both CPU and GPU performance is doubled compared to the Snapdragon 460.

Coming to the camera section, after the Snapdragon 888, the SD480 also comprise a triple Spectra 345 ISPs to process images. Sadly you cant record 4K videos and are limited to recording only 1080p videos @60fps and slow-motion 720p videos @120fps.

For storage and RAM, the chipset supports UFS 2.2 and LPDDR4X RAM at up to 2133MHz.

Further features include Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology, a Full HD resolution 120Hz refresh panel and the latest Qualcomm AI Engine with a 70% AI performance boost compared to Snapdragon 460.

December 10, 2021: Moto G51 5G is the first-ever smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus (+) chipset. It comes with support for 12 5G bands. The device features a 6.8-inch FHD+ 120Hz LCD screen and 5000mAh battery with 20W charging. The Moto G51 5G is priced at Rs 14,999 in India for the single 4GB + 64GB version.

November 2021: Oppo A55s 5G, Nokia X100, and Nokia G300 are now official with an SD480 chipset.

August 2021: Nokia XR20, Redmi Note 10 JE, Vivo Y72 5G, Vivo Y53s and OnePlus Nord N200 have arrived in the market with an SD480 chipset.

April 20: Oppo A74 5G has arrived in India with a price tag of Rs 17,990 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage option. It is available in Fluid Black and Fantastic Purple colours. Key highlights of the Oppo A74 5G include a 5,000 mAh battery, 48-megapixel primary sensor, and an Android 11 based ColorOS 11.1.

April 8: Nokia X10 and X20 have arrived with 5G support and 3 years of software updates. Both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s 480 SoC. The two phones are almost identical except in the camera department. We see a 64MP rear camera with ZEISS optics on X20. On the other hand, the X10 sports a 48MP rear camera.

March 25: Motorola Moto G50 is now available in select European markets. We get a 90Hz 720p display, SD480 5G SoC, 5000 mAh battery and a 48MP main camera.

January 15: Oppo has announced Oppo A93 5G that packs SD480 SoC. Its price has been set at CNY 1999 for the 8GB + 256GB edition. The A93 5G comes with elegant Silver, Dazzle Black, and Aurora colours. There is no word on the global market release.

January 11: Chinese handset maker Vivo has added a new phone Vivo Y31s to its 5G portfolio. It is the world’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 480 chipset. The device packs in a single 6GB + 128GB variant which costs CNY 1698.
