MediaTek Helio G88 chipset: Everything you need to know
MediaTek has finally announced its successor of MediaTek Helio G85 chipset namely MediaTek Helio G88. The chipset brings some under the hood improvements when compared to Helio G85. The MediaTek Helio G88 chipset is built of the same 12nm fabrication technology which we have seen on the Helio G85 chipset. It’s an octa core-based chipset with a 2X ARM Cortex A75 CPU clocked at 2Ghz and 6X ARM Cortex A55. In this article, we will talk about the G88 SoC and its key features. Also, let’s find out which phones will use this new G88 chipset.
MediaTek Helio G88 Processor
The chipset offers a Mali G52 MC2 CPU for decent-level gaming performance. By reading the specifications, you have probably assumed that it’s not the major upgrade when compared to the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and the same goes with the Helio G96 chipset too. It now supports up to LPDDR4x based RAM and eMMC 5.1 based storage and sadly, we still don’t have support for UFS storage. The chipset now natively supports an FHD+ resolution panel with the highest 90Hz refresh rate. The single-camera it supports is now 64-megapixels or 16-megapixels=16-megapixels dual camera.
It’s also equipped with some hardware-level photography features such as AI Smart Photo Album, Dual Cam Bokeh, rolling shutter compensation (RSC), Hardware Wrapping Engine (EIS), MEMA 3DNR, and multi-frame noise reduction technology, which might come useful for photography enthusiasts. The video recording capabilities are capped at either 2K@30FPS or 1080p@60FPS. Connectivity features include 4G Carrier Aggregation (CA), CDMA2000 1x/EVDO Rev. A (SRLTE), 4G FDD / TDD, HSPA +, Cat-7 DL / Cat-13 UL network bands. Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS location tracking technology, Wi-Fi 5 (a/b/g/n/ac), and Bluetooth V5.0.
The specs look decent on paper, however, if you are using MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, you don’t have to worry as the chipset doesn’t bring any major improvements instead it brings some minor improvements in the display and network section. Let’s wait till any smartphone OEMs launch their smartphone with this newly announced chipset.
