Moto G4 Smartphone May Receive Android 8.1 Oreo Update Instead of 8.0
Motorola launched its Moto G4 smartphone in May 2016. Though the device got an earlier upgrade to Android Nougat, the company did not launch any update for Android 8.0 Oreo. The company will skip the version and directly go for the Android 8.1 Oreo update.
The information comes from a browser benchmarking website where the Moto G4 and its updated version, Android 8.1.0. is mentioned. However, it is uncertain if the Moto G4 Plus will also get the same update. Last year, before the launch of the Moto G4 Plus, the company was not expected to give Android 8.0 Oreo updates for the smartphones. However, the company launched the Oreo update for the Plus version.
We can now be sure that Motorola will upgrade the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus to Android Oreo 8.0 or 8.1. Now, whatever be it, it will be getting a massive update. The versions don’t matter much since the 8.0 and 8.1 aren’t drastically different. It has minor tweaks, bug fixes, and the latest security patch, including the KRACK WPA 2 Wi-Fi vulnerability fix.
Android 8.1 seems inspired by the Pixel 2 smartphone and includes features like the Pixel launcher search at the bottom and the adaptive light/ dark themes. Also, it contains the transparent Quick settings menu previously seen on the smartphone. As for the date, it’s not yet confirmed by the company, but we can expect the update to roll out by next month.
