Samsung Galaxy S5 gets Android 12L Custom ROM via LineageOS 19.1

Samsung is no longer providing software support to many of its old devices. While Samsung is busy providing One UI 4.1 update based on Android 12 to its new and eligible devices, the unofficial port of LineageOS 19.1 adds support for Android 12L for the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched in 2014 with Android 5 pre-installed. Although Samsung officially ended the update cycle for the phone with Android 6, it supports Android 12L despite being unofficial. Thanks to XDA Developers and the whole LineageOS team, the Samsung Galaxy S5 now unofficially supports Android 12L. This is the oldest device to now support Android 12L.

This is an experimental build of Android 12L specifically made for the Snapdragon 801 version of the Galaxy S5. Despite being an early release hence unstable, this could bring life to any old Galaxy S5 with Snapdragon 801. It should become stable with time and work smoothly without any major issues as the Galaxy S5 was ahead of its time in terms of hardware. This should be a great way to rehabilitate your old Galaxy S5 if you have one. XDA does not recommend you to try this on a Galaxy S5 which is a daily driver. But it is highly unlikely that anyone of you might be using the Galaxy S5 as a daily driver in 2022.

If you have a Galaxy S5 and you want to try out Android 12L then make sure that you have the Snapdragon version. The developers have provided unique builds for the Snapdragon model. They offer different builds for the “klte” (SM-G900F/M/R4/R7/T/V/W8), “kitchen” (SM-G9006V/8V), and “klteduos” (SM-G900FD/MD) provides). However, as with any Custom ROM, we recommend being mindful of what you are doing.

The Galaxy S5 will also get access to all the LineageOS 19.1 Custom ROM features alongside Android 12L. The developers have done great work by willing to keep the old devices alive with the latest version of Android while the company has forgotten about it.

Lastly, if you have an old Galaxy S5 lying around then you should definitely give LineageOS 19.1 Custom ROM a try. You can find download links and a complete guide on how to flash it on your phone here.
