Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is sending out invites for a product launch in India on February 14, that’s about a week from now. The invitation contains the numerical ‘5’ covered in two borders, confirming the company will launch the much-awaited Redmi 5 series in the country. The number is encased in two borders, which suggests the smartphones will have an 18:9 display.
The two smartphones that will be launched in the Indian market are the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus, launched in China a month ago. It is also speculated that the Redmi Note 5 will be announced alongside.
This will be the country’s first major launch from Xiaomi this year. The company has already promised an exciting February, so who knows what new surprises Xiaomi has for the Indian market. The company usually starts the year with a bang by launching a major product. Last two years, they launched the Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 4, respectively, which became the best-selling phone in India.
According to the rumors, the company is working on the Redmi Note 5 smartphone, but it won’t be launched until Q2 2018, which suggests Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus and just announce the Redmi Note 5. But according to another rumor, the company will launch the bigger Redmi 5 Plus as the Redmi Note 5.
These new upcoming devices are the first Redmi smartphones equipped with an 18:9 display that will help capture the market’s mid-range segment, and who knows, they might become the next best-selling smartphone in India. The Redmi 5 is expected to cost Rs 7,500 for the 2 GB RAM variant, while the higher 3 GB RAM variant will be priced around Rs 8,500. As for the Redmi 5 Plus, the lower variant will come with a price tag of around Rs 9,500, while the higher variant will cost around 12,500.
